One of the largest issues with interior plants is the mattering of watering. Often, indoor plants are watered too much and die because of root rot. Sub Irrigation and controlled watering help to eliminate this problem but keeping the soil at the optimal water saturation.
Sub irrigation systems water plants from the bottom up instead of the top down. These systems have a reservoir beneath the plant container that is periodically filled with water. It will be required to check the soil occasionally to insure that the irrigation system is working properly.

The water in the reservoir is always available to the plant's root system and can be absorbed as needed. It may take some time for plants to get used to this form of watering but after they adjust, they will always have water as needed. The reservoir will need to be refilled occasionally depending on the plants water requirement, temperatures and relative humidity.
When using a sub irrigation system, less time will be spent watering the plants which means that more time may be spent removing dead foliage, dusting leaves, and other grooming procedures. This will help the overall health and appearance of the plant which is another benefit of sub irrigation.
